Empowering Youth: International Climate Delegate TRIP

In June 2023, Miss. Siva Kima (HCC Legal Affairs Officer) embarked on an insightful journey by applying for and subsequently being accepted into the prestigious International Youth Climate Delegate Program (IYCDP). This program, which brought together 100 passionate youths from across the globe dedicated to climate change mitigation and adaptation, represented a remarkable opportunity amidst thousands of applicants worldwide.

The program unfolded online through Zoom meetings and email exchanges starting in July. The culmination of this immersive experience was marked by Siva’s participation in the Conference of Youth (COY 18) and the highly influential Conference of Parties (COP28) held in the United Arab Emirates from November 26th to December 12th, 2023.

Sponsored by the IYCDP and YOUNGO (Youth and Children Constituency of the UN Climate Change Processes) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the program delved into critical topics such as understanding the organizational structure of the UNFCCC, fostering youth inclusivity, and gaining insights into climate change agreement negotiation processes.

Siva expressed gratitude for this transformative opportunity, which culminated in an unexpected journey to experience the conferences firsthand in this captivating part of the world. Acknowledging the support of family throughout the journey, Siva extended heartfelt appreciation to the IYCDP 2023 Team for their guidance and assistance at every stage, from initial interviews to travel arrangements and logistical support.

As Siva continues her journey with a newfound perspective and determination, her experience serves as a beacon of inspiration within the conservation community and beyond.

By sharing Siva’s story, Hogave Conservation celebrates the dedication and passion of individuals like Siva who are actively contributing to the global movement for environmental preservation and sustainability.
